Birmingham Royal Ballet – Don Quixote

Get your culture kicks this March! Birmingham Royal Ballet’s Director Carlos Acosta promises entertainment for all ages when he brings an explosion of Spanish sunshine, spectacular dance and vivacious comedy to the Sunderland Empire this month.

This new production, created especially for Birmingham Royal Ballet, introduces us to Cervantes’ famous knight himself, lovers Kitri and Basilio, and a host of intriguing supporting characters. 

As the Don sets out on a quest to track down his true love, with his loyal friend and servant Sancho Panza at his side, he finds himself embroiled in an unlikely adventure of love and dreams!

Glass Exchange
National Glass Centre
From 26 March

 

Bringing together ground-breaking contemporary artists, with some of the most highly skilled glass makers in the country, Glass Exchange presents four ambitious new art works across the North East, in sites ranging from Durham Cathedral to a disused shop in Sunderland Centre.

Over the past 24 months, artists Pascale Marthine Tayou, Katie Paterson, Monster Chetwynd and Ryan Gander have been working with specialist teams at National Glass Centre to realise their ideas. This fascinating process of artistic and technical exchange is documented in a brand-new exhibition at National Glass Centre.

Glass Exchange is supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England, with additional funding from Art Fund, Henry Moore Foundation and the Coastal Communities Fund, and with thanks to the University of Sunderland.
