Seaburn beach will host  the last local event in this year’s Sunderland BIG Community Sports Festivals programme on Wednesday 21 August.

The annual programme provides children, young people and their families with affordable, easy access to a huge range of outdoor activities and sport.

It has been held in a different park or public green space across the city every Wednesday afternoon, to give everyone a chance to take part and get involved.

Trained staff and volunteers from local sports clubs and community groups have been on hand throughout, to provide the encouragement, expertise and equipment needed to take part.

The Active Sunderland BIG Community Sports Festivals are delivered by Sunderland City Council with its community sports partners and sponsored by Gentoo.

Gentoo Group Chief Executive Officer, Nigel Wilson said: “Sponsoring this year’s Active Sunderland Big Community Sports Festivals has been a brilliant opportunity for us to be involved in such great community events.

“At Gentoo, we support our colleagues to live active and healthy lifestyles and understand the importance that both play on overall wellbeing in and outside of the workplace.

“As one of the main employers in Sunderland, with almost 30,000 homes in the city and 1,200 colleagues we wanted to sponsor an event that is fun and brings the community together.”

He added: “The Big Community Sports Festivals are the perfect opportunity to enjoy the green spaces we have across the region whilst taking part in family-friendly activities.”
