Sunderland College welcomed a group of German apprentices from a high profile European engineering organisation, who came to see their excellent engineering facilities.
Nine apprentices from Thyssen Krupp Rothe Erde in Dortmund visited Sunderland College for a tour of the specialist engineering facilities at the College’s City Campus and were given a presentation about the College’s apprenticeship programme.
Roballo Engineering in Peterlee, also a Thyssen Krupp Rothe Erde company, arranged the visit for a group of German apprentices who were visiting the North East.
The German apprentices also had the opportunity to meet Advanced Manufacturing Engineering Apprentices who are studying at Sunderland College and training with local employers Calsonic Kansei and ZF (TRW), to compare their apprenticeship training with their British counterparts.
Jeff Bower, Engineering Lecturer at Sunderland College, said: “We were delighted to welcome the apprentices from Dortmund to our City Campus. They were extremely impressed with our engineering facilities. They also commented that many of the practical skill building exercises completed by the Sunderland College Advanced Manufacturing Engineering apprentices mirrored those undertaken in Germany.”
