ENTRIES ARE ALREADY COMING IN for this year’s Active Sunderland BIG 3K Run with different motivations for everyone taking part.

The Active Sunderland BIG 3K Run on Sunday 12 May provides an opportunity for runners of all ages and abilities including children aged five years and over, to take part in a large scale public running event.

The BIG 3K will use the same start and finish line, on part of the same city centre closed road course, as that of the Siglion Sunderland City 10k and Half Marathon taking place later that day.

Among those already registered to take part are a team fundraising for St Benedict’s Hospice in Sunderland which offers care, advice and support for patients with life-limiting illness and their families.

Head of Corporate Relationships and Challenge Events Fundraiser for St Benedict’s, Anthony McDermott said: “We are delighted to be involved in this year’s BIG event programme in particular the BIG 3K run.

“It’s fantastic to get local people involved in local events to support a local charity close to many hearts. Active Sunderland’s events programme provides a fantastic opportunity for people of all ages and abilities to get involved in something to raise money for a great cause.

” We can’t wait to be part of what is promised to be a fantastic weekend of running.”

Sunderland City Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, Councillor John Kelly added: “Good luck to those running to help raise money for St Benedict’s, and all those taking part on behalf of charities and community projects across the city and across the region.

“The aim of the Active Sunderland BIG events is to get more people involved in sport and leisure activities, and increasing numbers are using the fundraising possibilities as additional motivation.

” We have designed the events programme to provide opportunities for everyone to get involved and get active, whatever their age and abilities, so please find something to suit you, your family and friends and join us.”
