Major transport plans are in place for this weekend’s Sunderland Airshow (Friday 26, Saturday 27 and Sunday 28).

A huge part of the event’s planning goes into organising the travel, public transport, traffic flows and parking arrangements for the hundreds of thousands of visitors expected at the three day event.

There are dozens of air displays due over the weekend plus music, and ground events – see PDF attachment below.

Sunderland City Council Cabinet Member for Environment and Transport, Councillor Amy Wilson said: “We want everyone to enjoy the Sunderland Airshow, and we work closely with our public transport and traffic partners to make sure we meet people’s different travelling needs as best we can.

“That can include everything from park and ride services and extra parking, to extra services on the Metro and buses.

“Thousands of people will visit our award-winning seafront over the three days of the event, and we want their journeys to be as easy and stress-free as possible.

“We’d ask everyone to play their part in this by planning their journeys well in advance and to help we will provide transport updates before, during and after each day’s event programme. Everybody is working and working together for the public’s benefit.”
