The Kubix Festival is heading to Herrington County Park over the weekend of Friday and Saturday August 10 and 11, and is set to feature some of biggest names from the 70s, 80s and 90s.
Former Boyzone front man Ronan Keating will headline a 1990s-inspired line up on Friday, performing some of the band’s biggest hits along with his own solo chart-toppers.
Joining him on the bill will Peter Andre, B*witched, Right Said Fred and boy band East 17.
Sunderland City Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture said: “This is a fantastic new music event and hopefully the first of many.
Thanks to the hard work and dedication of staff, plus all the friends and volunteers who support Herrington Country Park it’s held in a park that has once again retained the prestigious Green Flag Award – the mark of a quality park or green space.”
On Saturday, the 80s’ favourite Prince Charming, Adam Ant, will be leading a star-studded programme featuring leading stars from the alternative and indie scenes. These are set to include Buzzcocks, The Boomtown Rats featuring Bob Geldof, Fun Lovin Criminals, Peter Hook & The Light, The Undertones and The Blockheads.
Cllr Kelly added, “Our city is rapidly gaining a reputation for being a great place to hold events.
Although this year will undoubtedly be remembered for the first visit of The Tall Ships Races, we also have some beautiful areas that are the perfect locations for everything from music festivals and illuminations to soap-box racing, community sports festivals and of course ` the airshow.”
Herrington Country Park has previously hosted everything from Radio 1’s Big Weekend and Let’s Rock the North East to The Olympic Torch in 2012 and regularly hosts The Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride and BIG Walk.
