ENTRIES are still open for this year’s BIG Bike Ride weekend on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 June.
The annual event sees hundreds of cyclists pedalling their way to being more active on attractive routes across Sunderland.
So far, 390 riders have signed up to get in the saddle for this year’s ride. You can sign up here: www.sunderland.gov.uk/bigbikeride2019
Councillor John Kelly, Sunderland City Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, said: “The Active Sunderland BIG Bike Ride is one of Sunderland’s most popular annual events.
“This year we already have nearly 400 cyclists signed up, but we want to see as many people as possible taking part.
“I would encourage everyone to sign up now before entries close on Monday 10 June at 9am.”
This year sees the return of the BIG Family Ride to Herrington Country Park on Saturday 15 June with a five mile traffic free route within the boundaries of the park and starting at 10am.
The family ride is followed by the 20 and 35 mile rides on Sunday 16 June from St. Peter’s Riverside starting at 9.30am. Both rides use parts of Sunderland’s extensive 141km (87.6 miles) cycle path network with routes stretching across the city and crossing the Northern Spire.
Entry is only £11 per person and includes an event t-shirt, bespoke medal and goody bag.
