THE MUSIC STARS continue to turn out for Sunderland.

As the Spice Girls scheduled appearance on 6 June as part of their world tour signals the return of live music to the Stadium of Light, the line-up for next year’s ‘Lets Rock’ outdoor music festival in Herrington Country Park on 8 June also signals a return of some of the 1980’s biggest stars to the city.

Following the success of Lets Rock in June this year which attracted a sell-out crowd of 15,000 of music fans to the award winning park to enjoy headline acts such as Tony Hadley, Midge Ure, The Real Thing and Kim Wilde the event promoters ‘Lets Rock’ are returning next year.

Next year’s line-up features even more stars including Status Quo, Marc Almond, Jason Donovan, T’Pau, Chesney Hawkes, and the unforgettable Black Lace Conga Party who graced the charts for over a decade with hits still popular today.

Sunderland City Council Cabinet Member for Communities and Culture, Councillor John Kelly said: “It’s great to see Sunderland re-establishing itself as a destination on the international and national music tour maps, with the city having fantastic venues able to stage large outdoor concerts and events.

“Over the years we have welcomed some of music’s biggest international stars, and hopefully we welcome many more in the years to come.

“Sunderland is a city with a proud cultural heritage, and bright cultural future. We have the proven ability to stage some of the largest music, sports and outdoor events in the country such as the annual Airshow and recent Sunderland Tall Ships Races and outdoor concerts such as these will help attract more people, investment and international attention to our city.”

Director of promoters Lets Rock, Nick Billinghurst said: “What a remarkable first year at Let’s Rock the North East, with a great atmosphere and great crowd in Sunderland at Herrington Country Park.

“ We cannot wait to come back next year, with our 2019 programme of great live music and songs we all remember and grew up with.”
