The friendly team at Sunderland BID are here to guide you through the Local Restrictions in Sunderland and to ensure your visit to the city is as safe and enjoyable as possible.
CURRENT RESTRICTIONS – UPDATED 28TH SEPTEMBER
Tougher restrictions have been announced for our region.
As a result of increasing Covid-19 infection rates, the Government has announced that households cannot mix indoors with people they do not live with in any setting unless they are in their support bubble.
This includes pubs and restaurants in Durham, Gateshead, Newcastle, North Tyneside, South Tyneside, Northumberland and Sunderland.
New restrictions include:
- Venues including pubs, restaurants and cafes to close from 10pm to 5am
- Venues providing food and drink restricted to table service only
- You must not meet with those outside your household or support bubble
WE’RE ALL IN THIS TOGETHER
It sure has been a long time coming, but it’s imperative to welcome our wonderful city back to the sheen it once was.
So with that in mind, let’s familiarise ourselves with the new guidelines.
It’s new, it’s unusual and it will take some time to get accustomed to, but if we all channel our renowned Mackem warmth and show just a little bit of patience as life begins moving again, we know Sunderland city centre will be glowing again in no time!
As businesses continue to do their bit to ensure the safety of staff and customers at all times, it’s down to us to continue making sure we keep the city clean, comfortable and secure as we take back to the streets to enjoy it in all its glory.
Here are a couple of things to remember before you head into the city…
CHECK BUSINESS OPENING TIMES >>
Some of your favourite venues may be operating on reduced hours – it’s worth checking their websites and social media before heading out. Remember 10pm is the new curfew!
TIME TO COVER UP >>
Face masks and coverings have been made compulsory in shops and on public transport. Wearing is caring!
HAND HYGIENE >>
Wash your hands before and after you head out – and where possible, carry a hand sanitiser with you. Keep an eye out for the public hand sanitiser stations situated across the city.
BE AWARE OF NEW SOCIAL DISTANCING RULES >>
Be vigilant and follow one-way systems and distance markings. Remember the 2m distance rule and continue to keep your distance from others as you’re out and about. They’re in place to protect you!
TAKE YOUR LITTER HOME >>
Nobody likes a litterbug. Keep our streets looking spic and span by taking any litter home with you.
CHANNEL YOUR MACKEM FRIENDLINESS >>
It’s been a rollercoaster ride for everybody in recent months. Be patient, crack a smile (even behind your face mask!) and let’s move the city forward, together.
TRAVEL SAFE, TRAVEL SMART
