The fine folk at Sunderland College have recently opened a new employability hub in Sunderland city centre! This state-of-the-art facility will help provide adults with training and support, helping to make career goals a reality!

Officially launched in January at the college’s City Campus, City Skills and Careers is set to play a pivotal role in transforming the lives of adults in the local community by improving access to education and training in Sunderland.

This sparkling new facility will provide a one-stop-shop for adults who are looking to gain skills and qualifications for employment, or to advance their career.

Adults (aged 19 plus) can drop-in during opening hours to access free advice and support from a dedicated team of expert staff, who will signpost them to appropriate courses to get them into work or kick-start their career development.

Alan Patterson, Employability and Community Lecturer at Sunderland College, said: “This is a fantastic resource for job-seekers and a positive venture for adult learners that will help them to progress into training and employment. It will also help to reduce the barriers many of our learners face when coming to college or into education for the first time.”

Job-seekers and those looking to change careers, or develop an existing one, can access support from a professional team who are on hand to assist with CV writing, job searches, interview techniques, skills for employment, English and maths qualifications and pre-employment courses – in a wide range of employment.

Whether it be retail, manufacturing, construction, business administration, health and social care or education, the team at City Skills and Careers at Sunderland College will have you on your way in no time!

Celebrating the launch with a busy breakfast networking event that included the likes of Jobcentre Plus and other local careers and education providers, Sarah Ward, Careers Advisor at Education Development Trust, a UK-registered charity, said: “Sunderland College’s new City Skills and Careers covers a wide range of subjects and courses that meet the needs and requirements of our customer base.”

Not only does the college offer students a responsive and innovative curriculum for adult learners, it also has strong ties to some of the region’s leading employers. Working alongside the likes
of The Food Warehouse and Station Taxis to recruit staff for a new Iceland store and new drivers, Sunderland College have created bespoke courses that guarantee students an interviewupon completion!
