Despite the crazy situation we all find ourselves in, our beautiful city is driving forward and we’ve just learned that Sunderland has become the first city in the North East to launch its own gift card scheme!

Part of an on-going commitment to help boost the local economy, the Sunderland Gift Card is being pioneered by Sunderland BID and Sunderland City Council, which has teamed up with Miconex, the company running the successful Town & City Gift Card scheme at major locations across the country.

The big news? Well, businesses of all types – including hospitality, retail, experiential and professional services – are being invited to sign up for the scheme, which will allow these nifty little cards to be spent at their venues.

Launch of the City of Sunderland Gift Card, with Mandy Brown of Harrison & Brown furniture, Holmeside, Sunderland and Natalie Dellow of Sunderland BID.

The Sunderland Gift Card will enable the recipients to spend the value at a whole range of outlets citywide, which could include cinemas, shops, beauty salons, hairdressers, restaurants and bars.

With the likes of Primark, Greggs, Aphrodite, SAFC and Sunderland Museum and Winter Gardens all getting involved in the action this year, it’s fair to say that our friends at Sunderland BID have made ticking off your festive shopping oh so easy for us all this year.

It’s a brilliant idea from some of our city’s leading businesses, and along with providing the ideal solution for hard-to- buy-for friends, family and colleagues, the gift card is also a brilliant way to encourage people into the city, spending money on a wide range of our inspiring businesses and therefore help support local economy now and in the future.
