Sunderland Coffee Shops

As Coffee Week 2020 draws to a close, we’ve picked out 7 fabulous Sunderland coffee shops well worth some love this October…

Holmeside Coffee

Make Holmeside Coffee a firm fixture for the foreseeable future – the team have recently announced that this iconic coffee store will be shutting up shop in January.

That means you have three months to enjoy their delicious handmade sandwiches, beautifully roasted coffee and general good vibes. Good luck for the future gang!

The Mad Hatter

Take a break from reality and stop by this Alice in Wonderland inspired tea room for a hot brew and a slice of home-made cake. The Mad Hatter is a great spot for anyone out and about in Fulwell and it’s a firm favourite for many of us across the city.

Grinder Coffee

Grinder Coffee is a popular spot for the locals and they’re quickly gaining a reputation for their delicious speciality coffees and tasty home-made cakes.

You can find this coffee shop on Durham Road, not far from the University Metro stop if you’re in the mood for a quick drink to accompany you on your travels.

The Good Apple

To all our vegan and vegetarian readers, The Good Apple has endless veggie meals on offer and it’s a match made in heaven once paired with a piping hot flat white.

Located over on Derwent Street, it’s a great spot for those out and about in the city centre.

There’s a new coffee shop to shout about! Our friends at Coffeehaus have teamed up with the cool cats at Port Independent to bring Sunderland a new city centre, in-house coffee store.

Expect a warm and welcoming interior with a stripped-back, sleek Scandinavian vibe – perfect spot to hunker down a treat yourself to a piping hot flat white.

With coffee, art, plants, craft beers and more in abundance, we’re pretty certain Coffeehaus is going to be a massive hit!

Pati Cake Patisserie

Pati Cake Patisserie has made a lasting impression on foodies across the city, all thanks to their inspired Ferrero Rocher and Kinder Bueno creations.

Pop down to Pati Cake, grab a doorstop slice of cake and kick back with a brew. The only way to round off Coffee Week 2020 if you ask us!

Love Lily Tearoom

Another stand-out place for a hot beverage on Roker beach front, enjoy the sea views and the photo-worthy presentation of their yummy cakes.

Known for their distinctive cake decoration and range of sweet treats including cookies, cup-cakes and pancakes, Love Lily Tearoom is a fabulous spot to indulge with a steaming flat white and one of their beautiful pancake creations!
