As part of the Christmas in Sunderland campaign local primary schools took part in a competition to create a festive themed shop window for some of the City’s favourite shops.
The Mayor and Mayoress of Sunderland, Cllrs David and Dianne Snowdon had the difficult task of choosing the winners from all the fantastic creations.
First place was awarded to the display at Whitfield Chemist, Easington Lane which was created by Easington Lane Primary School, second place went to New Silksworth Academy for their display at Sainsbury’s Silksworth and finally third place was awarded to Ryhope Junior School and their display at Herdman’s Chemist, Ryhope.
Mrs Graham from Easington Lane Primary School said: “The children really enjoyed this festive activity and winning first place was just the icing on the Christmas cake!
The book tokens will allow us to update our library which the children will be overjoyed about. Thank you to Whitfield Chemist for allowing us to decorate your window.”
Siobhan Todd, Pharmacist at Whitfield Chemist in Easington Lane added: “The children made a fantastic job of our window, everyone stopped to take a look. We were really impressed with the hard work and creativity put it into our display, thank you Easington Lane Primary School.”
Cllr Linda Williams, Portfolio Holder for Vibrant City said: “It is absolutely fantastic to see primary school children and businesses in the city working together to spread some Christmas cheer.
Everyone has worked so hard to create these amazing displays and should be as proud of themselves as we are. Sunderland has still managed to come together to celebrate the season and we can’t thank our local vibrant businesses enough for getting involved.”
