Sunderland’s £18m game-changing cultural hub is open and what a start it’s had here in the city.
One of the biggest cultural venues to arrive in Sunderland, The Fire Station features an auditorium, bars, a restaurant, dance and creative writing studios and the Parade Ground; a 600-capacity outdoor performance space with an external stage and bar.
And after a blistering opening thanks to their Firestarters, the first programme of performances at the Auditorium that began in December, a new wave of world-class events are arriving at The Fire Station this spring.

The Transatlantic Ensemble perform Fleetwood Mac’s Rumours
18 February
The unbelievably good Transatlantic Ensemble are heading to The Fire Station to blast through Fleetwood Mac’s iconic Rumours album this season.
Tickets are usually gone in a heartbeat for this one, as internationally renowned musicians and groove masters, The Transatlantic Ensemble put on one of the biggest and best music events going.
Expect a funky rendition of The Chain, a soulful version of Go Your Own Way and a euphoric performance of Don’t Stop from this outstanding bunch of uber-talented musicians.
The Monocle
19 February
Rendezvous Dance will bring their critically-acclaimed production, The Monocle, to The Fire Station.
The Monocle is the brainchild of celebrated, award-winning choreographer Mathieu Geffre. It’s set in a flamboyant lesbian nightclub in 1930s Paris and features six outstanding dancers and a wonderful singer.
Reimagining traditional theatre settings with an evocative show, settle in as the auditorium is transformed into a speakeasy club setting, as audience members participate in a thrilling and exciting performance that fuses elegant dance routines with groovy live music.

Having supported The Lumineers on their arena tour, join Grammy-nominated, horticulturist-turned-musician Gregory Alan Isakov for an exclusive show at The Fire Station this March.
Whether Gregory is singing a tender tribute to a grumpy coffee shop custodian, offering the audiences a sincere reflection as a touring musician or trying to understand Buddhism, this critically-acclaimed artist arrives in Sunderland armed with a back-catalogue of affectionate tunes that vividly captures the people and places he’s visited on his travels.

A brilliant evening of joyous banjo belters awaits! This Is The Kit touches down at The Fire Station this March for an uplifting celebration of their brand new album, Off Off On.
Since their debut album, Krulle Bol, was released in 2008, This Is The Kit have unpicked emotional knots and woven remarkable stories to create critically-acclaimed albums, toured across the continent and featured at Glastonbury 2019.

Get ready to dive into a rabbit hole of daft anecdotes, off-the-cuff one-liners and hilarious stories with Live at the Apollo star and sell-out sensation, Gary Delaney.

The Futureheads – Acoustic & A Cappella

Firestarters draws to a close with a special one-off acoustic acapella show by Sunderland’s home-grown success story The Futureheads on Saturday 11 June.
A special opportunity to experience a different side to the band, The Futureheads promise a serene evening of music featuring a mix of acoustic and a cappella song arrangements, intricate four-part harmonies and plenty of audience patter.
