What’s On Sunderland: Houghton Feast at Home

One of Sunderland’s most popular and historic events is set to take place online from 2 to 11 October. Here’s what’s on this autumn…

Houghton Feast at Home will feature some of the much-loved aspects of the traditional festival as well as brand new ones.

Using a range of platforms including Facebook and You Tube programme highlights include a virtual opening ceremony on Friday 2 October at 7pm that will kick things off in style this year.

From there, families can watch online as the Mayor of Sunderland, Cllr David Snowdon counts down and switches on the Houghton Feast lights.

If you’ll miss the parade this year, fear not. Decorate your home with balloons and bunting and take a trip down memory lane with footage of Carnival Parades of the past on Saturday 3 October.

There’s even a virtual fancy dress competition for all the family to get involved in too!

The Big Houghton Feast Quiz will take place online via Zoom on Monday 5 October. With traditional music and general knowledge questions and with an extra special ‘How well do you know Houghton’ round, this is a quiz you don’t want to sleep on.

A full programme of online events is available to view at www.houghtonfeast.co.uk, check it out and we’ll see you (online) at the festival!
