Independent’s 16th Birthday!
16 years of ruining shoes, 16 years of providing the best parties in Sunderland, 16 years of Blue Pints and 16 years of supporting new talent!
One of Sunderland’s most loved venues, the Independent, celebrates its 16th Birthday on September 3rd with a massive all day party.
Kicking off from 5pm with some of our favourite acts from across the region, a mix of new and exciting bands that have impressed at Independent over the past year.
They’ll be rolling into a classic Independent sesh from 10pm with three rooms of loud music, blue pints and good times all night. There’s free entry until 10pm, grab a ticket to secure your spot and enjoy live sets from: Bodacious, Casual threats, Club Paradise, Elizabeth Liddle, Eve Cole, Lottie Willis and Ten Eighty Trees!

Brandy Clark
The Fire Station has pulled it out of the bag with this one, the 10x Grammy nominated and CMA-Award winning artist Brandy Clark is coming to Sunderland! She’s in the midst of another landmark year in her career, further solidifying herself as one of our generation’s most respected songwriters and musicians with her new Grammy-nominated album Your Life is a Record. Don’t miss the chance to hear Brandy’s world renowned musicianship live, as she takes to The Fire Station stage armed with a variety of fantastic new tracks!

Tide Lines #ReviveLive
Fast rising Scottish rockers Tide Lines are set to play a special show at Independent in Sunderland as part of the Music Venue Trust and National Lottery #ReviveLive tour!
Tickets for this show are 2-4-1 with every ticket purchased omitting entry to the ticket buyer plus one guest, free of charge, providing the guest has a National Lottery ticket either digitally in print.
The band’s latest album, Eye of the Storm, finished its first week at number 12 in the UK Album Charts in May 2020, topping both the Scottish and Independent album charts in the process.
Their sound has been described as “…Folk with rousing rock, sparkling electronics and escapist lyrics….awash with arms-aloft sing-alongs.” (The Sunday Times) and “…roaring tunes embracing anthemic lift-off and wide-eyed wonderment.” (The Daily Mirror).

Sweet Dreams are Made of This: My Life in Music – An Evening with Dave Stewart
The Fire Station will be welcoming Sunderland legend Dave Stewart to The Fire Station for this very special “Evening with” type event where Dave will tell the story of his life in music!
Expect in-depth conversation, amazing live music, film and much more in this especially curated event where Dave will share his experiences from his earliest musical influences growing up in Sunderland, through his stratospheric success with Annie Lennox and Eurythmics, fascinate us with stories about his many collaborations with among others, U2, Mick Jagger, Bob Dylan, Stevie Nicks, Daryl Hall, Gwen Stefani, Katy Perry, through to the release of his most recent album, the brilliant and epic Ebony McQueen and the subsequent film due to be released about his life growing up in Sunderland.

Picnic w/ Marketplace
Picnic are one of the most exciting up and coming bands in the North East and you can catch them live for an intimate show at The Ship Isis this September! The six piece will bring an arsenal of up-beat indie pop tunes to their set and have you dancing all night long.

Ricky Ross
Deacon Blue star Ricky Ross is heading down from Scotland this September to bring us lucky lot some bonnie live music from his brand new solo album, Short Stories Vol. 2! You’re in for a magical night with Ricky at the piano, sharing stories from his forthcoming autobiography Walking Back Home, as well as serenading you with some of the best tunes from his acclaimed career. You might even hear the song voted ‘Scotland’s Greatest Song’, the Deacon Blue smash hit Dignity! We can’t wait for this one at The Fire Station.
